Land Rover Dallas in the heart of Dallas, Texas is here to take you on a little journey into the future with the unveiling of the Discovery Vision Concept!
The Discovery Vision Concept was unveiled at the New York Auto Show last April, and proudly showed off Land Rover’s key principles of emotive design, unrivalled capability and ultimate versatility.
The technology that surrounds this astonishing SUV is completely unsurpassed and promises to impress even the most diehard Land Rover critic. The “Transparent Hood” virtual imaging technology which is designed as an aid in off-road driving and tight spaces is truly one-of-a-kind. Using camera images projected onto a full width heads up display at the bottom of the windshield, this technology provides visibility of what is underneath and directly front of the car, with visualizations of otherwise hidden obstacles. Cameras located at the front of the vehicle capture data and are used to feed a Heads-Up Display across the bottom of the windshield, effectively creating a ‘see-through’ view of the terrain through the hood and engine bay, breaking new ground in visual driver assistance.
Inside the cabin you will find seven, endlessly configurable full-size seats, four of which have 10-inch hi-resolution screens set into them, and detachable luggage is integrated into the doors. A savvy new water and oil repellent leather called Foglizzo H20w is used inside, and accessories include blankets and cushions trimmed in Harris tweed. You will also be mesmerized by doors that are operated by gesture control, which removes the need for handles. The front and rear doors open in opposite directions to reveal the absence of a B pillar and a single large space for easy entrance and exit, and below the doors are sill steps that automatically deploy while LED lamps light up the ground below. The electrically-powered split tailgate is also gesture-controlled and includes a “social seat,” which is basically a flip-up seat and an event platform that slides out from under the boot floor that provides a place to stand for watching sporting events.
“Discovery has been pivotal in helping to build the foundations of the Land Rover brand,” said Gerry McGovern, Design Director and Chief Creative Officer for Land Rover. “It is admired all over the world and loved by its strong customer base. We have created the Vision Concept to share the essence of Land Rover’s new age of Discovery and to debut a new, compelling, relevant design direction that connects on an emotional level with customers of today and tomorrow.”
