Celebrating 45 Years of Range Rover

Land Rover Dallas is joining in on the celebration of Range Rover’s 45th birthday this month, adding just one more reason to give praise and admiration for the world’s most enviable luxury SUV.

So far 2015 has seen quite a few crowning moments for Land Rover.   At the New York International Auto Show in March, Land Rover revealed the exclusive SVAutobiography as well as the landmark six millionth Land Rover, the Range Rover Vogue SE, which rolled off the Solihull production line in April.

Over the last 45 years Range Rover has delivered a series of industry firsts as it has evolved into the inimitable SUV we know today.   As well as introducing a vast array of advanced technologies, the original Classic model was cited as an “exemplary work of industrial design” when it became the first vehicle to be displayed at the world famous Louvre museum in Paris.

The Range Rover sits at the pinnacle of the Land Rover brand and matches class-leading off-road capability with a range of state-of-the-art gas, diesel and Hybrid powertrains to deliver an unrivalled blend of refinement, comfort and capability.

Nick Rogers, Jaguar Land Rover Director Global Engineering Operations, said: “Range Rover was the first luxury SUV in the world in 1970 and 45 years on it continues to lead the way. The latest model is the most desirable and sophisticated Land Rover ever, mixing peerless comfort with cutting edge technology to provide the ultimate luxury SUV experience.”

Range Rover’s epic journey began in the sixties as Land Rover looked to revolutionize the growing 4×4 leisure market, and now in its 4th generation, it is still crowned as the original luxury all-terrain vehicle and will continue to be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.

A Royal Ride

Building a vehicle fit for a queen might seem a daunting and intimidating task, but nonetheless, the geniuses at Jaguar Land Rover were up to the challenge.queen2

A new State Review Range Rover hybrid debuted recently in a ceremony in which the Queen of England presented new colors to the Royal Welsh Regiment in Cardiff, Wales.

Based on the long-wheelbase Range Rover, the “topless” State Review Rover has a chrome handle running around the outside, no rear window and a fold-down bench seat for when her majesty needs a rest.  It also features a diesel-hybrid powertrain that allows it to creep along at parade speeds in electric-only mode.

Just as U.S. Secret Service tends to chauffeur presidents in Cadillacs and Lincolns, the Royal Family has a longstanding relationship with Land Rover.  The Range Rover Hybrid is the fourth State Review vehicle built by the company, the first being a 1953 Series I.  The new model replaces one based on a 2002 Range Rover.queen

Jaguar Land Rover is the only automotive company to hold all three Royal Warrants, from The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and The Prince of Wales.  JLR also recently received a 2015 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development, for reducing the environmental impact of its products and its operations.

The Range Rover hybrid isn’t being sold on this side of the pond just yet, although a non-hybrid diesel model was displayed at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show and is expected to go on sale here in the near future.
