For over 9 years, the Land Rover Freelander 1 remained one of the brand’s best-selling models, and now it has officially been given the honor of being a Land Rover Heritage vehicle!
A Heritage model is defined as those products that have been out of production for longer than 10 years and the Freelander 1 was first produced in 1997 and its production run ended nine years later in 2006 when Freelander 2 replaced it. Ever since production of Freelander 1 concluded, Land Rover continued to support owners through the supply of spare parts for this model line. Now, owners will be supported by the brand’s Heritage experts and ensure loyal owners continue to enjoy their vehicle for many years to come.
Land Rover Heritage specializes in cars, services, parts and experiences for classic Land Rover models and the Freelander 1 becomes the brand’s eighth Heritage model. The others are Series I, II and III, Range Rover Classic and P38 Range Rover plus Discovery 1 and 2.
Tim Hannig, Director, Jaguar Land Rover Heritage, said: “With the addition of the Freelander 1 as a Heritage model, Land Rover is reaffirming its support and commitment to its loyal customers by providing exceptional cars, services, parts and experiences for models more than 10 years out of production. Genuine Land Rover Heritage Parts for Freelander 1 have been engineered and tested in extreme conditions. As such it gives our customers total peace-of-mind that their vehicles are maintained to the highest possible standards.”
When it was launched, the Freelander broke the mould by pioneering the compact premium 4×4 class and at the time had 16 patented features including Hill Descent Control (HDC), Immediate Reduction Drive (IDR), a viscous-coupling (VCU) and an innovative ABS system designed specifically for off-road situations.
All of us here at Land Rover Dallas proudly welcome the Freelander into the Land Rover hall of fame!
Land Rover Dallas would like to introduce you to the all new 2018 Discovery prototype! This Discovery will soon be replacing the esteemed LR4, and is expected to go on sale sometime in 2017, as a 2018 model. It is earmarked to be the second model in Land Rover’s new Discovery family of vehicles, with the first being the smaller Discovery Sport launched last year.
The prototype is designed around Land Rover’s aluminum platform currently found in the Range Rover as well as the Range Rover Sport. Known as the Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA), the platform will ensure that the vehicle is much lighter than the LR4, making it more fuel efficient and much easier to handle.
Advanced technologies such as Land Rover’s transparent hood system, which uses cameras and a head-up display system to show the driver the area just in front of and underneath the nose will also be implemented in the new Discovery. Possibly making the list of amenities is the laser headlight system, which is used to scan the road surface as well as project guide paths to drive along, such as when parking in tight spaces.
Expect to find a six-cylinder engine under the hood, possibly a new in-line six based on JLR’s Ingenium design. An eight-speed automatic transmission will most likely be standard, and the Discovery will include the seven-seater option, plus the off-road capability the current LR4 is renowned for.
Stay tuned to Land Rover Dallas for updates as development continues on the upcoming 2018 Discovery Concept, and in the meantime we invite you to visit us online to view our vast lineup of new and pre-owned Land Rovers.

Land Rover continues to broaden the wide appeal of the Discovery with the launch of two new special editions – the Landmark and the Graphite. New distinctive exterior design features to both editions enhance the fourth generation Discovery, while unique interior touches to the Landmark bring more luxury and exclusivity.
These special editions give the Discovery even greater on-road presence than ever before. Available to order now, they will be seen on the roads from January 2016 onwards.
The Discovery Landmark builds on the specification of the HSE derivative with new interior and exterior features that offer the customer a more premium and unique look and feel to their Discovery.
The exterior upgrade sees the addition of full length roof rails in a bright finish that highlight the familiar stepped roof design of the Discovery. Distinctive black fender vents, grille and mirror caps complement silver bonnet and tailgate badges, alongside Landmark badging to the side and rear to further distinguish this model. 20-inch 5-split spoke alloy wheels complete the design.
The Discovery Graphite introduces a modern and distinctive look to the model range with striking finishes. A grey Graphite finish to the fender vents and grille, which also sports a gloss black and lighter grey frame, blend with existing grey highlights appointed to the door handles and the Discovery badging to the bonnet and tailgate. Exclusive to the Graphite is the 19-inch 7-split spoke alloy wheel in a high gloss dark grey as standard. You can choose between a wide spectrum of nine body, and three interior colors.
