Welcome the 2018 Range Rover Velar, a mid-size crossover destined to merge between the small Evoque and the statuesque Range Rover. This is a totally new design concept for Land Rover, yet no one would mistake the Velar for any other make outside of Range Rover.
The Blackout window trim, floating roof and clamshell hood styling are exclusive to the brand presented in a sleek, elegant fashion. The short windows and tapered body give the vehicle an aggressive look compared to its Range Rover siblings.
While most drivers will pamper the velar, this model is equipped to get down and dirty as it can handle dusty slopes and bumpy terrain. The Velar P380 model is equipped with a rear locking differential which adds to the quick-reacting 4 wheel drive system.
With the Terrain Response system, the steering, suspension and powertrain settings are optimized for off-road performance. The Velar also comes equipped with All-Terrain Progress Controls that steadies the vehicle’s pace when navigating up and down hills. Drivers are able to focus on their steering in tricky conditions while the vehicle autonomously handles braking and acceleration.
The most powerful version is equipped with a supercharged 3.0 liter V6 boasting 380 horsepower and an 8-speed transmission. With a 0 to 60 time of 5.3 seconds, the supercharged V6 is as delightful on-road as it is off-road. The other engine offerings consist of a turbocharged 4-cylinder that comes in both gas and diesel options.
When you step inside the cabin, the interior feels almost like a living space with the wool-ensconced seating and wood paneling throughout. The driver is surrounded by a sensory-indulgent design full of muted colors and exclusive textures. The dashboard features a Touch Pro Duo system that controls the infotainment system with twin HD touchscreen displays

Land Rover vehicles equipped with InControl Apps now have the customizable Spotify app that brings a unique streaming experience with playlists based on listening habits.
Spotify partnered with Land Rover to create a new twist on in-car entertainment with personalized music choices.
“With Spotify at over 100 million subscribers, a sizable portion who drive Land Rovers, we recognized that this app was at the top of our customers’ wish list, ” said Peter Virk, Director of Connected Technologies. “Our goal of bringing Spotify to the applications was to create the best possible in-vehicle experience.”
After a year of collaborative efforts between Land Rover and Spotify, the design teams were able to bring an immersive suite of options with familiar use settings.
The playlist interface is the same as the Spotify phone application, which makes it easy for drivers to recognize how it flows. In order to minimize inside distractions, there is a horizontal swipe function that users can easily scroll through without taking their eyes off the road.
Music lovers can appreciate the deep learning function exclusive to Spotify that remembers listener habits and creates new ‘Just for You’ playlist with personally selected tracks. Users save time when scrolling through music because the hits are preselected for their preferences.
The teams at Land Rover and Spotify took into account a major concern for drivers in rural areas: low signal issues. The Spotify app has an Offline mode that conveniently pre-loads music and will play the downloaded tunes if there is a poor internet signal.
Among the pre-launch users of the app included Rapper Example and Kaiser Chief’s Ricky Wilson. The two testers went head to head in a musical battle with playlists of their favorite songs.

Land Rover just announced the introduction of the Range Rover P400e for their 2019 lineup. Although Range Rover models have been available with hybrid options in other countries for several years, this is the first time they will be released in the United States.
The hybrid models are projected to arrive in showrooms summer 2018 and both the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will offer the plug-in functionality.
The vehicle is programmed to recognize when the conditions are ideal to use the internal engine, the electric motor or a combination of both. With an energy saving feature, the battery retains a constant charge so the zero-emission operation is ready to use at all times.
The battery itself is rated for roughly 30 miles of pure electric use with a capacity of 13.1 kilowatt hour. The electric motor alone has 114 horsepower which means it won’t perform as well on electric alone, hence the parallel hybrid mode to optimize the drive.
The powertrain for both 2019 P400e hybrid models combines a turbocharged 2.0 liter engine and electric motor. Delivering a total of 398 horsepower, the vehicle will have a 6.4 second 0-60 mph time which is fairly impressive for a vehicle in its class. It is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission with a top speed of 137 mph.
For off-road driving, both the Range Rover P400e and Range Rover Sport 400e will be calibrated for enhanced torque distribution and greater control when maneuvering on rough terrains.
According to Nick Collins, the director of Jaguar Land Rover’s vehicle line “The introduction of the advanced plug-in hybrid powertrain is a watershed moment in the history of our performance SUV”. The luxurious Range Rover P400e is the first step in a transition to a fully electric Range Rover vehicle in 2020.
