Discovery Assists with Montana River Trip

Photographer, Alex Strohl, intends to make Montana his “permanent” home. Strohl is a travel and adventure photographer with nomad-like tendencies. However, Strohl and his partner, Andrea, fell in love with Montana’s natural beauty and serene winters and decided to put down some roots. A cabin built in Montana’s picturesque countryside is the perfect location for this duo to rest and relax after they come home from their adventures.

However, construction on the cabin came to a halt due to the harsh winter, so Strohl, his cousins, James Byrd and Isaac Johnston, and photographer buddy, RJ Bruni, packed up Strohl’s Land Rover Discovery Sport with the intent of paddling the North Fork of the Flathead River.

“Put simply, the Discovery Sport made the trip happen,” Strohl said. “Just getting to our departure point in peak winter weather was a challenge. The road is unpaved, not always losses and lightly traveled. It carried us with all of our gear and our canoe to the river. We forged a path through the deep snow to the edge of the river so we could unload everything near the water.”

The first day of the winter river trip ended up being more grueling than they thought. Near the beginning they ran into a logjam they had to hike around, and then an ice jam (ice spanning the entire width of the river) a few miles later. Since the first part of the river took longer than they thought, the sun set before they reached their campsite.

The second day of the winter river trip gave the adventurers a break, no ice in sight! They enjoyed a leisurely day of canoeing and lunch on the water. Finally, they paddled to the pickup spot. Andrea had the Land Rover Discovery Sport waiting to get the friends and their gear.

No doubt, this trip would not have been possible had it not been for the Land Rover Discovery Sport and its unrivaled ability to excel on all terrains.
