The Discovery SVX will be built from Land Rover’s safe, strong, and light aluminum exterior. The Discovery has been long admired, especially since the 5th generation launched in 2016, making it the ideal vehicle for the ‘first modern Land Rover’ to be labeled with the ‘SVX badge.’

“The SVX product line give us a fantastic opportunity to deliver the ultimate Land Rover all-terrain capability in a dynamic and distinctive manner, created a rugged and versatile SUV that the whole family will love: effortless, unstoppable and connected, whatever the terrain,” Mark Stanton, Jaguar Land Rover SVO Director, said. “Discovery SVX is designed to reward off-road driving enthusiasts with the next level of all-terrain capability, without compromising comfort and practicality.”

The Discovery SVX will have Jaguar Land Rover’s 5.0 liter supercharged V8 petrol powertrain with 525 PS peak power and 625 Nm torque. It will have Hydraulic Active Roll Control, which is new to the Discovery line, and Terrain Response 2 system.

Discovery Sport Challenges Snow Tunnel

This summer has been warm for Northern Europe. So warm in fact, it has posed a training problem for Laura Kaarainen, Finnish middle distance champion, and her team of six sled dogs. Land Rover sought to remedy this and helped transport her team of huskies in a Discovery Sport to the Vesileppis Ski Tunnel in Finland to train.

The Vesileppis Ski Tunnel is 115-ft below ground level and kept at 28.4 degrees Fahrenheit. It is so cold that the tunnel is able to maintain .8 inches of snow throughout the summer.

While Laura Kaarainen and her team practiced, Land Rover thought it would be a perfect opportunity for the Discovery Sport to be put to the test. The Discovery Sport has a 286HP Ingenium 4-cylinder power engine, Intelligent all-wheel drive technology, and Terrain Response system1 to assist it with maneuvering the ski tunnel.

“Snow is one of the most demanding surfaces drivers will encounter during winter around the world and Discovery Sport proved to be as comfortable in these conditions as the dogs,” Karl Richards, Driver and Lead Engineer for Stability Control Systems at Jaguar Land Rover said. “Land Rover’s advanced Terrain Response technology and intelligent four-wheel drive system ensure our premium compact SUV is in a class of its own when it comes to off-road driving – whether you’ve got two legs or four.”

When the “teams” set off, they went in opposite directions. The dog sled team worked through the first incline then were able to pick up speed and maintain it, usually around 22 mph. The Discovery Sport was initially blocked by some ice blocks, so the wheel articulation and traction control systems came in handy and worked superbly. The teams fought hard, but in the end the Discovery Sport came in as the winner.

Land Rover Awards 5 Deserving Entrepreneurs

Land Rover Dallas is proud that Land Rover has partnered with The Prince’s Countryside Fund for the fourth year to loan out a Land Rover Discovery Sport for free to five young entrepreneurs to assist them with developing their rural careers.

The Prince’s Countryside Fund was established in 2010 by HRH The Prince of Wales to “enhance the prospects of family farm businesses and the quality of rural life.”

The winners of this award were chosen based on their dedication to making a difference in their communities, their passion, and their topnotch business plans. The winners’ award of a Discovery Sport was awarded at a ceremony at Loseley Park in Surrey, United Kingdom.

In addition to receiving their Discovery Sport, the winners received training in off-road and towing to help further them in their career field. This training prepared them for every weather condition and all terrains as well as taught them about the technologies available to them through their Discovery Sport.

“These young people are great advocates of the farming industry and their passion and dedication is a pleasure to see,” Scott Dicken, Jaguar Land Rover United Kingdom Marketing Director, said. “Their entrepreneurial spirit is also showing the diverse options within farming and just how exciting and multi-dimensional a career in agriculture can be.”

The Land Rover Discovery Sport is easily the best option for rural life. It’s all-terrain abilities and performance outshine the competition. The Discovery Sport has a towing capacity of up to 4,409 lbs. When Trailer Stability Assist technology is added customers have absolute confidence in towing and maneuvering any load.

The Discovery Sport’s 4-cylinder 2.0-liter engine is made of Land Rover’s revered lightweight aluminum. The engine comes equipped with advanced turbocharging and independent variable  valve timing. This helps lower how much fuel is consumed.

Jaguar Land Rover Highlights Women in STEM Field

In celebration of International Women’s Day in March, Jaguar Land Rover released some new images and announced their partnership with Getty Images, a world leader in visual communication, to highlight the need for more realistic representations of women in STEM roles.

The images of women in STEM roles people usually find are dated and do not properly represent the variety and excitement these women experience in their careers. Jaguar Land Rover and Getty Images are striving to change that. Studies have shown that people searching for photos of women in STEM has risen by 526% in the past year.

“We have always championed women in the car business and are committed to inspiring more girls and women to consider careers in engineering and manufacturing,” Fiona Pargeter, Jaguar Land Rover Global PR Communications Director, said. “Our female workforce has grown from 9% to 11% over the past four years due to our focused STEM initiatives. But this is still far too low – businesses being proactive about using realistic imagery is one of the many ways that we can attract the bright minds we need into STEM careers.”

Jaguar Land Rover and Getty Images released pictures on March 8, 2017, International Women’s Day, of female Jaguar Land Rover employees in roles from aerodynamics to audio and cyber engineering. In addition to properly portraying women in STEM roles, Jaguar Land Rover and Getty Images hopes these pictures help to encourage women to apply for STEM jobs as well.

“Here at Jaguar Land Rover we need the diversity of skills that women bring to ensure we thrive and maintain our competitive edge for years to come,” Michelle Mortiboys, Vehicle Line Director, Jaguar Land Rover, said. “It is well known that gender diversification in business is not just healthy culturally but also propels progressiveness and innovation. Our partnership with Getty Images is not just about recruiting women into engineering, it’s a small part of the work that needs to be done to upscale female employees in the automotive sector as a whole.”

Land Rover Reborn

Land Rover’s original Series 1 is truly a classic. First launched at the Amsterdam Motor Show on April 30, 1948, the Series 1 has an 80-inch wheelbase, a pick-up body, and was originally priced at around 450 pounds.

When starting to draft the first design for the Land Rover, the consumer was always at the forefront. Due to the large amount of people working in agriculture in the 1940’s, Land Rover’s Series 1 sought to accommodate the consumer by excelling in the field, like a tractor, as well as transportation.

Over the years many Series 1s have challenged expectations and assisted in discovering new lands. Land Rover Reborn is selecting 25 authentic Series 1s that have fallen into disrepair to make the trip to our home of the original Defender factory in Solihull, England.

Once at our factory, our team of experts will professionally restore the Series 1s to their original 1948 state. We believe that not one of our vehicles is the same. Especially with the Series 1s. Each Series 1 has its own unique history. Each had its own life it its own part of the world. It is our goal to restore each vehicle’s authenticity and uniqueness.

Each vehicle undergoes an examination so we know exactly what needs to be restored to what specification.

If you are willing to spend the money, you can purchase a Series 1 and even select which original paint color you would like for it to be (Light Green, Bronze Green, Royal Air Force Blue, Dove Gray, or Poppy Red) and what material you would like the seats recovered with. When restoring the Series 1s, it is our goal to retain each vehicles character and authenticity.

Tours are also available, so if you are a car enthusiast but do not have the money to bring a Series 1 home, you can see the restoration in person at our Solihull facility.
